15 years girl Ms Tharini daughter of Mr Raghupathi Sivaraman from Chennai, India was born of full-term normal delivery with 3.4 Kgs birth weight.

She accomplished all her motor milestone ages appropriately and monosyllabic speech at one and a half years of age. But unlike other children, she had poor eye contact, delayed response and delayed speech, hence at the age 3 years parents consulted doctors and she was diagnosed as an instance of Autism. She was on regular Speech therapy and Occupational therapy since then. It was very hard for the parents to get her anyplace.

She underwent numerous tests and treatments before the family came to know about stem cell therapies. She was brought to Advancells: Stem Cell therapy Centre, Delhi following which all the assessments were done and it was found that her main concerns as reported by parents were poor eye contact, poor care and concentration, poor imitation, poor sitting tolerance, motor mannerisms like fidgeting with fingers, temper tantrums, speech problems. On evaluation, it was found that she was auditory hypersensitive (used to grow irritated with cooker whistles, washing car, mixer grinder), Vestibular and Tactile Hyposensitive. Functionally she could eat finger foods but used to spill other daily food articles, while bathing, she could only pour water, and she could not get dressed independently and required assistance. She was assessed on Functional Independence Measure and she scored 55% and on ISAA (Indian Scale for Assessment of Autism) she scored 107 (moderate autism).

PET scans, MRI Brain and EEG were done as standard Investigation and was considered for the Stem Cell Therapy. The patient got autologous stem cell therapy (Both bone marrow and fat stem cell) on 7th April 2016 at our centre following which she started speech therapy and Occupational therapy.

An assessment was done at the end of 4 weeks and the following improvements were noticed:

  • Repetitive hand movements had decreased
  • Attempts to listen to auditory stimuli and follows commands
  • Sitting tolerance and attention span slightly improved
  • Clear words
  • Her school teacher noted that her social interaction and her eye contact has improved
  • No fear of strange words
  • More grasping of teachings
  • She tries to open her mouth loudly
  • Now almost 75% independent for her daily activity

On assessment it was found that her ISAA score reduced from 107 to 75; her FIM Score increased from 55% to 75%. The parents are very positive and happy with the improvements and they are in regular contact with us at Advancells, Delhi through emails. Her next follow up would be after 3 months and we are hoping for better social interactions, could say more words voluntarily and increase in overall awareness.
