About Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that impacts social and communication skills. Repetitive behaviors and restricted interests also characterize it. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 100 children has autism. Its severity varies among individuals, impacting the amount of support an individual requires from a parent or caregiver.
Individuals with Autism tend to isolate themselves and find any change in routine tasks challenging. It often adversely affects their mental health. Early diagnosis, often by age two, is critical for effective intervention.
Current Treatments
Treatments for Autism focus on improving quality of life and functional independence. Behavioral, speech, and occupational therapy address social skills, speech deficits, and sensory sensitivities. These therapies help develop optimal communication and behavioral characteristics. Medication treats mental health and hyperactivity, but does not address the core problem.
Stem Cell Therapy: Emerging Hope for Autism Treatment
Regenerative medicine has shown potential for Autism treatment. Stem cells, particularly mesenchymal stem cells, have exhibited positive results. MSCs act on various aspects of the disorder through their regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulatory properties. Clinical trials have demonstrated significant improvement in social interaction and reduction in severity levels. The results with stem cells are encouraging, offering hope to many Autism patients.
