Are you addicted to smoking? A habit, which you have acquired, when you were young; and you are unable to quit it even after trying hard? The reality is that most of people start smoking at a young age to tranquil their thirst of looking cool, being like an adult, or maybe for other known, unknown reasons to come into the mainstream. With the love to experiment, teenagers often try smoking to see what all the fuss is about and end up getting addicted to it.

A lot of people think that they need cigarettes to cope up with their daily stress but the fact is, instead of relaxing, nicotine in cigarettes may act as a stimulant; making your heart beat faster and raising your blood pressure, which in turn makes the situation unpleasant. Thus, Smoking not only has become the worst habit in adults but also leads to serious heart and lung issues even for people around them, who don’t smoke at all.

Some of the common lung diseases associated with smoking are Asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and acute bronchitis etc. Out of which COPD is one of the most common and severe afflicts caused by smoking. Cigarette smoke contains harmful toxins that affect lungs functionally. Additionally when these toxins are inhaled into the lungs over prolonged periods of time, there may be severe lung irritation, triggering the onset of COPD.

COPD is a chronic disease primarily caused due to accumulation of mucus inside your lungs and thus reducing the amount of air that is being inhaled. Hence it is mainly associated with your breathing, exhibiting following symptoms.

  • A prolonged cough with mucus
  • Shortness of breath, with any physical exercise
  • Wheezing sound while breathing
  • Constraint feeling in chest
  • Less focused mind
  • Rapid heartbeat

If above symptoms are persisting for long, you need urgent medical attention. Before going for a treatment, you must stop the causing factors first. It means stopping smoking is the most important treatment if the disease is in the early stage and symptoms are mild.

Furthermore, if the symptoms are becoming troublesome there are treatments available, which aim to make you breathe better. However, treatments for different stages of COPD are altogether disparate. For a stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, treatments that are conventionally offered are inhalers such as Short-acting bronchodilator inhalers, long-acting bronchodilator inhalers, and steroid inhalers. These inhalers are comprised of bronchodilator medicines in powdered form, which relaxes the muscles in the airways to open or dilate them as wide as possible. Theses inhalers can as well reduce inflammation to a great extent. However, they may not have much effect on your usual symptoms but can prevent flare-ups.

Stem cell treatment for lung can be done to help manage COPD symptomatically at early stages. But what if it has reached a stage where above treatments cannot be effective? The only option left is Surgery which is done by removing a section of lung that has become useless. Due to less availability of surgery centers, cost management, and dangerous side effects after surgery, it generally should not be preferred. Then what else can be done? In this regards, Stem Cell Therapy, could be a better cost effective alternative, in reducing COPD  symptoms  and stopping the progression of the disease.

The use of stem cells as a treatment regimen is quite appealing. As we know, these stem cells have strong regenerating properties. They can be rightly exploited for the protection of the lung tissue by suppressing inflammation caused by pollutants, acceleration of regeneration of airway tubes and air sacs. They can even efficiently trigger production of growth factors which will further facilitate regeneration. Stem cells are the mother cells of the body, mainly differentiating into the required types of cells upon channelizing through proper method. Research has evidently suggested that once inside the body, they can regeneration of new lung cells, and thus removes the obstruction.
